Day 01 – Arrival/ Negombo

You will get your first taste of warm Sri Lankan hospitality, the representative/guide from TransAsia Silk Road Travel Partner will and transfer to the hotel in Negombo.

Negombo is a major city in Sri Lanka, located in Western Province, Sri Lanka. The Bandaranayake International Airport is located close to this city. The city is known for its great and olden trawling industry with busy fish markets, sandy beaches, hotels and restaurants. Due to bounty of seafood, the town restaurants are a gourmet’s delight. There are also local handicrafts, batiks and jewellery boutiques on the beaches and shops in the city. Fishing and tourism is the main economy of this city.

Day 02 – Negombo/ Habarana

After breakfast leave to Habarana. En route visit the caves of Dambulla. Dambulla is a popular tourist destination in Sri Lanka, the popular cave temple complex dated to the 2nd century BC is declared as a world heritage site by UNESCO. There are over 80 caves in Dambulla, some of which are used for meditation by monks. The Famous Rock temple has five separate caves containing 153 magnificent Buddha statues, 3 statues of Sri Lankan monarchs and 4 Hindu deities.

Dambulla sheltered King Walagamba during his 14 years of exile from Anuradhapura. When he regained the throne, he built the most magnificent of Rock Temples to be found in the Island. In the first Cave is a recumbent image of the Buddha 47ft long cut out of the Rock. There are images of deities associated with Buddhism all around. The frescoes on the walls and the ceiling are the oldest here but they are over painted in the Kandy period.

Day 03 – Habarana/ Polonnaruwa/ Habarana

Morning proceed to Polonnaruwa ancient ruined city. Polonnaruwa today is a showcase of the great ancient Sri Lankan architecture dating back to 12th Century AD, which was interwoven with many Buddhist monasteries and monuments which were built by King Parakramabahu 1. It had been a prosperous time for the entire island nation.

He developed the city with architects and technicians brought down from India architecture can be seen from many well-preserved sites exciting today such as Gal Viharaya, consisting huge stone monoliths of the lord Buddha, in a sitting, standing and reclining positions. Thupaaramaya Image house and many other sites scattered throughout Polonnaruwa ruined city.

Afterwards you take a walk through the local village passing paddy fields before sitting for traditional lunch prepared by the local family.

Afternoon return to hotel and relax.

Day 04 – Habarana/ Kandy

Today morning climb Sigiriya Rock (a world heritage site), Considered the 8th wonder of the world. In the 5th Century “Fortress in the Sky” which is perhaps the most fantastic single wonder of the Island. It is also known as Lion Rock because of the huge lion that used to stand at the entrance to the Palace on the summit of the 600-foot high rock. On its summit are the foundations of the Royal Palace, Water Tanks to supply water and all other buildings and at the edges the guardhouses.

On one of the stairways the only known ancient work of Sinhala secular painting survived in the form of Frescoes of 21 life sized damsels still shining in their original colors.

Day 05 – Kandy

KANDY – the hill capital is another “World Heritage Site”. It was the last stronghold of the Sinhalese Kings during the Portuguese, Dutch and British rule and finally ceded to the British in 1815 after an agreement. To the Buddhists of Sri Lanka and the World, Kandy is one of the most sacred sites as it is the home of the “Dalada Maligawa” – Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic of Lord Buddha.

After breakfast stroll in the Peradeniya royal botanical Garden The bestknown attraction of the garden is the Orchid house, which houses more than 300 varieties of exquisite Orchids. A spice garden gives you a firsthand introduction to the trees and plants used for the traditional Ayurvedic medicine. Mahaweli river, Sri Lanka’s longest river surrounding this garden gives an added beauty to this garden.

Late afternoon, attend the cultural show completed with traditional dancing and fire walking.

After cultural show return to hotel and relax.

Day 06 – Kandy / Nuwara Eliya

After breakfast proceed to Peradeniya railway station to take a train ride to Nanu oya. Enjoy the nice sceneries of hill country. East of the ridge of the Central Highlands lie a series of picturesque hills; as this area is sheltered by the massif of the highlands, the climate is dry and sunny – in marked contrast to the cloudy lushness of the Highlands. At the Nanu Oya railway station, you will meet your chauffer guide and continue your journey.

Afternoon visit a tea factory, to witness the manufacture process of world famous Ceylon Tea. You also can taste a freshly brewed tea as well.

Day 07 – Nuwara Eliya / Udawalawe

After breakfast leave for Udawalawe. Udawalawe national park, located next to the massive Uda Walawe reservoir, this park is important for its elephants. Three Circuit Bungalows are available at Seenuggala, Weheragolla, and Thimbiriyamankada and 2 Campsites are at Weheramankada and Pransadara.

Check in to hotel and relax.

Day 08 – Udawalawe

Today morning jeep safari of Udawalawe national park. covers an area of 230,821 hectares and was declared in 1972. It is only 115 miles from Colombo via Ratnapura and Pelmadulla. This Park is rich in Elephant population as the Park has about 500 Elephants. Wild Buffalo, Spotted Deer, Barking Deer, Wild Boar, Sambhur, Hare, Mongoose, Crocodile and 30 species of Snakes are recorded.

‘ATH ATHURU SEVANA’ – a home belonging to the Department of Wildlife Conservation where they take in jumbo babies found abandoned, stranded or orphaned in the jungles from all parts of the island. Some babies are found sick and wounded. They are kept and treated at the Elephant Transit Home and looked after till they are ultimately fit enough to be released back to the wild.

Day 09 – Udawalawe / Bentota

After checking out from the hotel proceed Bentota.

Late afternoon visit Galle fort which was built first in 1588 by the Portuguese, then extensively fortified by the Dutch during the 17th Century from 1649 onwards It is a historical, archaeological and architectural heritage which even after more than 423 years, maintains a polishes appearance, due to extensive reconstruction work done by Archaeological Department of Sri Lanka. The fort has a colorful history, and has a multi –ethnic and multi – religious population. The heritage value of the fort has been recognized by the UNESO and the site has been inscribed as a cultural heritage UNESCO Worlds heritage site. Continue journey to Bentota.

Day 10 – Bentota

Bentota is a coastal town in Sri Lanka, located in the Galle District of the Southern Province is a major tourist attraction, with a local airport (Bentota River Airport) and a handful of world-class hotels. It is a destination for watersports. Bentota also delivers an ancient art of healing called Ayurveda. Bentota is famous for its toddy production, an alcoholic beverage
made out of coconut nectar. It also has a turtle hatchery, located on Induruwa beach.

Day 11 – Bentota/ Airport, Colombo
