Day 01 – Arrival/ Negombo

You will get your first taste of warm Sri Lankan hospitality, the representative/guide from TransAsia Silk Road Travel Partner will and transfer to the hotel in Negombo.

Negombo is a major city in Sri Lanka, located in Western Province, Sri Lanka. The Bandaranayake International Airport is located close to this city. The city is known for its great and olden trawling industry with busy fish markets, sandy beaches, hotels and restaurants. Due to bounty of seafood, the town restaurants are a gourmet’s delight. There are also local handicrafts, batiks and jewellery boutiques on the beaches and shops in the city. Fishing and tourism is the main economy of this city.

Day 02 – Negombo/ Habarana

After breakfast leave to Habarana. En route visit the caves of Dambulla. Dambulla is a popular tourist destination in Sri Lanka, the popular cave temple complex dated to the 2nd century BC is declared as a world heritage site by UNESCO. There are over 80 caves in Dambulla, some of which are used for meditation by monks. The Famous Rock temple has five separate caves containing 153 magnificent Buddha statues, 3 statues of Sri Lankan monarchs and 4 Hindu deities.

Dambulla sheltered King Walagamba during his 14 years of exile from Anuradhapura. When he regained the throne, he built the most magnificent of Rock Temples to be found in the Island. In the first Cave is a recumbent image of the Buddha 47ft long cut out of the Rock. There are images of deities associated with Buddhism all around. The frescoes on the walls and the ceiling are the oldest here but they are over painted in the Kandy period.

Day 03 – Habarana / Sigiriya / Habrana

This morning after breakfast you drive to Sigiriya. SIGIRIYA – is a “World Heritage Site” and the 5th Century “Fortress in the Sky” which is perhaps the most fantastic single wonder of the Island. It is also known as Lion Rock because of the huge lion that used to stand at the entrance to the Palace on the summit of the 600-foot high rock. On its summit are the foundations of the Royal Palace, Water Tanks to supply water and all other buildings and at the edges the guardhouses. On one of the stairways the only known ancient work of Sinhala secular painting survived in the form of Frescoes of 21 life sized damsels still shining in their original colors. The Water Gardens, Fountain Garden, Summerhouses, Boulder Gardens and the Caves within the enclosed area should not be missed.

Afternoon jeep safari of Minneriya national wild life sanctuary Witness nature its best, with the beauty of the wild animals in their natural habitat. Inside the park you will come across with the wild boars, Elephants and Deer and many more animals roaming freely as nature intended them to live. Return to hotel and relax in the evening.

Day 04 – Habarana/ Polonnaruwa / Passikudah

After breakfast proceed to Polonnaruwa the ancient ruined city. Polonnaruwa today is a showcase of the great ancient Sri Lankan architecture dating back to 12th Century AD, which was
interwoven with many Buddhist monasteries and monuments which were built by King Parakramabahu 1. It had been a prosperous time for the entire island nation. He developed the city with architects and technicians brought down from India.

The architecture can be seen from many well-preserved sites exciting today such as Gal Viharaya, consisting huge stone monoliths of the lord Buddha, in a sitting, standing and reclining positions. Thupaaramaya Image house and many other sites scattered throughout Polonnaruwa ruined city.

After lunch proceed to Passikudah. Since the end of the civil war in 2009 and the completion of Tsunami rehabilitation projects, Passikudah has become a popular tourist destination amongst locals and foreigners alike. This is because Passikudah is known to have one of the longest stretches of shallow coastline in the world. In other words, people walk kilometers into the sea because the water is only a few inches deep.

Day 07 – Passikudah / Bandarawela

Bandarawela is the second largest town in the Badulla District which is 30 km (19 mi) away from Badulla. Thanks to its higher altitude, compared to surrounding locations, Bandarawela has milder weather conditions throughout the year making it a popular tourist destination for locals. The town is influenced by its colonial history and rests among dense, lush forestation occupying a niche among visitors as a base for eco-tourism. The ancient Dhowa Buddhist rock temple is one of the well-known heritage sites in this region. It was founded by King Walagamba in the first century B.C.E. (1 B.C.E.) and is located beside Badulla-Bandarawela highway, 6 km from Bandarawela. The temple contains a 12m high Buddha image sculpted from rock and paintings depicting Jataka stories belonging to the Kandyan era. Adisham Bungalow, Bandarawela Hotel and Lipton’s Seats are other historic places in the Bandarawela area. Poonagala, Ampittiakande and
Leangawela are three visually stunning tea estates in the area. Check in to hotel and relax in the afternoon.

Afternoon jeep safari of Yala national wild life sanctuary Witness nature its best, with the beauty of the wild animals in their natural habitat. Inside the park you will come across with the Wild Boar, Elephants, Deer, Peacocks and many more animals roaming freely as nature intended them to live. The elephants gather at the water holes for drinking and bathing, their young and immersing themselves on rocks in the park.

Day 10 – Tissamaharama / Yala

Day 11 – Tissamaharama / Bentota / Waskaduwa

After checking out from the hotel proceed to Bentota via Galle. Visit Galle fort which was built first in 1588 by the Portuguese, then extensively fortified by the Dutch during the 17th Century from 1649 onwards It is a historical, archaeological and architectural heritage which even after more than 423 years, maintains a polishes appearance, due to extensive reconstruction work done by Archaeological Department of Sri Lanka.

The heritage value of the fort has been recognized by the UNESO and the site has been inscribed as a cultural heritage UNESCO Worlds heritage site.

Day 12 – Bentota / Waskaduwa

Bentota is a coastal town in Sri Lanka, located in the Galle District of the Southern Province. Bentota is a tourist attraction, with a local airport (Bentota River Airport) and a handful of world-class hotels.

It is a destination for water sports and famous for its toddy production, an alcoholic beverage made of coconut nectar. It also has a turtle hatchery, located on Induruwa beach.
